Succinyl-CoA:3-ketoacid coenzyme A transferase 2 (OXCT2) is a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of a coenzyme A (CoA) group from succinyl-CoA to acetoacetate, a crucial step in the catabolism of ketone bodies. This enzyme plays an important role in energy metabolism by enabling tissues to utilize ketone bodies as an energy source, especially under metabolic conditions when glucose availability is limited. OXCT2 is most highly expressed in the testis, suggesting possible tissue specificity compared to the related OXCT1 isoform.
