Overview

ST13, Hsp70 interacting protein pseudogene 4 (ST13P4) is a pseudogene found in the human genome. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are typically non-functional and not translated into proteins[1]. ST13P4 shares sequence similarity with the ST13 gene, which encodes the Hsp70-interacting protein (Hip), a co-chaperone involved in protein folding and stress responses. However, ST13P4 has not been shown to encode a functional protein nor does it participate in known biological pathways. The confusion over its nomenclature stems from mistaken annotation in some databases, which conflate its aliases and functions with those of the canonical ST13 gene. As such, ST13P4 is not considered a valid therapeutic target, drug receptor, or experimental biomarker[1][2].
