Surfactant protein A3, pseudogene (SFTPA3P), also known as COLEC6, is a human gene that exists in the surfactant protein A gene locus on chromosome 10q22.3, alongside the functional SP-A genes (SFTPA1, SFTPA2). SFTPA3P does not encode a functional protein, as it is a pseudogene—meaning it bears sequence similarity to the surfactant protein A genes but contains mutations or deletions that prevent normal expression or function. It is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and has no established biological or clinical function. There are no known drugs or biomarkers associated with the SFTPA3P locus. SFTPA3P should not be confused with functional surfactant proteins (such as SP-A1 or SP-A2, encoded by SFTPA1 and SFTPA2), which are relevant to pulmonary biology and disease.
