Overview

Sushi, nidogen and EGF-like domains 1 (SNED1) is a modular extracellular matrix glycoprotein characterized by a combination of NIDO, sushi (CCP), follistatin, EGF-like, calcium-binding EGF-like, and fibronectin type III domains. SNED1 mediates cell adhesion predominantly through its RGD motif, enabling interactions with integrins including α5β1 and αvβ3. It plays a critical role in neural crest cell migration, craniofacial morphogenesis, and the metastatic dissemination of breast cancer cells. SNED1 is present in the ECM, forms microfibrils, is subject to glycosylation and phosphorylation, and interacts with other ECM proteins such as fibronectin. Its developmental and cancer-associated functions make it an emerging target for research into cell-matrix interactions and metastasis.
