SSX2 is a transcriptional repressor and a member of the SSX gene family. It is normally expressed in the testis, but aberrantly activated in various cancers, making it a cancer/testis antigen. It is also a key component of the t(X;18) translocation found in synovial sarcomas, forming oncogenic SYT-SSX fusion proteins. Due to its tumor-specific expression and immunogenicity, SSX2 is being investigated as a target for cancer immunotherapy and small molecule inhibitors.
