SYS1-DBNDD2 is a long noncoding RNA produced by readthrough transcription between the SYS1 Golgi-localized integral membrane protein homolog gene and the dysbindin domain containing 2 (DBNDD2) gene on chromosome 20. The transcript contains exons from both parental genes but undergoes nonsense-mediated decay, making it non-protein coding and generally considered non-functional in classical protein-coding gene terms[1][7]. Some limited evidence suggests ncRNA readthroughs can modulate cellular responses, e.g., inflammatory or phagocytic activity in macrophages[3], but there is no evidence that SYS1-DBNDD2 serves as a biomarker, disease driver, or druggable protein target.
