T lymphocyte activation (delayed-type hypersensitivity) (DTH)

Target
DTH
Molecular classification
Immune response, Cell signaling pathway

Overview

T lymphocyte activation in the context of delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH), also known as Type IV hypersensitivity, refers to a cell-mediated immune response that typically develops 24–72 hours after exposure to an antigen. Unlike antibody-mediated responses, DTH is driven by T cells—primarily CD4+ Th1 and CD8+ cytotoxic T cells—and involves the recruitment and activation of macrophages and other inflammatory cells at the site of antigen exposure.
