Taste 2 receptor member 6, pseudogene (*TAS2R6P*), is a non-functional gene in humans belonging to the family of bitter taste receptors known as TAS2Rs, which are typically G protein-coupled receptors responsible for the detection of bitter compounds. TAS2R6P arose from the loss of function of an ancestral gene and is now classified as a pseudogene, meaning it does not encode an active receptor and has no known biological or pharmaceutical function in humans. Variation in *TAS2R6P* is notable in population genomics and evolutionary studies, as its genetic polymorphisms may be in linkage disequilibrium with nearby functional genes such as *TAS2R5*, which is under selective pressure in some populations[1]. While functional bitter taste receptors like TAS2R5 mediate bitter taste perception and possibly extra-oral functions, *TAS2R6P* itself is a genomic relic of this receptor pathway, not a participant in taste or other signaling.
