Overview

TATA-box binding protein associated factor, RNA polymerase I subunit B (TAF1B), is a protein component of the transcription factor SL1, which is essential for the initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase I. SL1, a complex composed of TATA-binding protein (TBP) and three TBP-associated factors (TAFs), binds to the rDNA core promoter and positions RNA polymerase I for rRNA gene transcription. TAF1B acts as a GTF2B/TFIIB-like factor, participating in pre-initiation complex assembly and facilitating recruitment and regulation of RNA polymerase I, possibly by direct interaction with transcription factors such as RRN3. Evidence for TAF1B's direct role as a therapeutic target or drug-interaction partner is currently lacking[1][2][8].
