Tear Film Stabilization (Mimics Mucin Layer)

Molecular classification
Mucopolysaccharide, Glycoprotein, Polymer, Secretagogue
01

Overview

Stabilizing the tear film by mimicking its innermost *mucin* layer addresses a fundamental cause of dry eye symptoms—poor adhesion/spreadability due to insufficient hydrophilicity. This approach either stimulates endogenous production/secretion of protective glycoproteins or supplements them with synthetic analogs possessing similar physicochemical properties. Such interventions improve comfort, reduce damage risk from desiccation/irritants, and restore visual clarity for patients suffering from various forms of dry eye disease.
