Overview

Testis expressed transcript, Y-linked 17A (TTTY17A) is a Y chromosome-encoded long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) specifically expressed in human testis tissue. It does not encode a protein and is considered a non-coding RNA gene, as reflected by its alternative designations such as “non-protein coding RNA 140” and “NCRNA00140”. Molecular characterization indicates that it belongs to the large and functionally diverse family of long non-coding RNAs, which often function in gene expression regulation, chromatin organization, or testis-specific biology. There is no evidence that TTTY17A is a therapeutic target—it is neither a receptor, enzyme, transporter, nor a similar druggable target class. Its biological function, clinical significance, and interacting partners remain largely undefined, as is common for many annotated lncRNAs, particularly those specifically expressed in the testis and mapped to the Y chromosome. There are no known diseases linked to mutations or dysregulation of TTTY17A, and no biomarkers or small molecules are known to interact with it.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; no drugs are reported to target this lncRNA

03

Biological functions

Unknown; testis-expressed long non-coding RNAs such as TTTY17A are generally thought to play roles in regulation of gene expression, chromatin structure, or testis-specific cellular processes, but no specific function has been assigned for TTTY17A[3][7][8]
04

Disease associations

No direct association with disease reported in current literature or databases. Although lncRNAs in general are implicated in diseases such as cancer, no evidence supports a role for TTTY17A specifically[3][9][10]
