Testis specific protein Y-linked 18, pseudogene (TSPY18P) is a pseudogene member of the Y-linked testis specific protein (TSPY) gene family. While functional TSPY genes, such as TSPY1, are protein-coding and have established biological and pathological roles—especially as cancer-testis antigens associated with cell proliferation, oncogenic processes, and germ cell tumors[1][4][7]—TSPY18P itself is annotated as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they may arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition, and typically do not encode functional proteins. There are many TSPY pseudogenes clustered with functional paralogs within the human genome[7]. Neither biological function, disease association, nor drug interaction is ascribed to TSPY18P, and it is not recognized as a therapeutic target. Note: The designation “testis specific protein Y-linked 18, pseudogene” or TSPY18P does not refer to an active protein or receptor, but rather to a nonfunctional genetic element; therefore, it should not be considered an actionable target.
