TSPY19P is classified as a pseudogene member of the testis-specific protein Y-linked (TSPY) gene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they typically do not encode a functional protein product due to mutations or the absence of necessary regulatory elements. The functional gene in this family, TSPY1, is found on the Y chromosome, is mainly expressed in testicular tissue, and is thought to be involved in spermatogenesis. While the TSPY gene family (particularly TSPY1) is implicated in reproductive biology and possibly disease conditions such as testicular germ cell tumors and gonadoblastoma, TSPY19P itself does not encode a functional protein and has no known biological or disease roles, is not implicated in drug interactions, and is not considered a therapeutic target[3][5][7]. There are numerous TSPY pseudogenes in the human genome, but only TSPY1 is a well-characterized functional gene; the rest, including TSPY19P, remain nonfunctional relics.
