Tetanus toxin, also known as tetanospasmin or TeNT, is a highly potent neurotoxin produced by the bacterium *Clostridium tetani* under anaerobic conditions. The inactivated form of this protein—commonly referred to as "tetanus toxoid"—is used in vaccines to safely elicit an immune response without causing disease. It is chemically inactivated with formaldehyde or genetically modified to remove toxicity while retaining antigenicity.
