Overview

The thoracolumbar nerves T6–L1 refer to a group of mixed motor and sensory peripheral nerves branching from the thoracic (T6–T12) and lumbar (L1) spinal segments. These nerves provide motor innervation to abdominal and back muscles, and transmit sensory signals from the abdominal wall, back, and parts of the chest. They are not molecular targets in the traditional therapeutic sense (e.g., receptor, enzyme), but rather anatomical nerve bundles critical for voluntary movement, trunk stability, and transmission of autonomic nervous system activity. Their injury can result in loss of movement, muscle function, or sensation below the affected vertebral level[1][2][4][5][7].
