Thymidine kinase 1, cytosolic (TK1), is a cell-cycle-regulated enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of thymidine to dTMP. This reaction is essential for dTTP synthesis, a building block for DNA replication and repair. TK1 activity peaks during S phase and is tightly regulated. Elevated serum TK1 levels are associated with increased cellular proliferation in cancers.
