Overview

Thymosin beta-4, Y-chromosomal is a small, 44–amino acid protein encoded by the TMSB4Y gene located in the male-specific region of the human Y chromosome[4][5]. It is a member of the beta-thymosin family, which also includes the X-chromosomal thymosin beta-4 (TMSB4X)[5]. Thymosin beta-4, Y-chromosomal functions as an actin-binding protein, primarily responsible for **sequestering actin monomers and regulating actin polymerization** in the cytoplasm, thus participating in the organization and dynamic remodeling of the cytoskeleton[4][5]. It shares sequence similarity and biological properties with its X-chromosomal counterpart, but is distinct in being Y-linked and male specific[5]. No direct evidence supports its role as a therapeutic target, nor are there known disease associations uniquely attributed to this protein or any interacting drugs or biomarker utility.
