Trace amine-associated receptor 3, pseudogene (TAAR3P) is a gene in humans classified as a pseudogene, meaning it does not encode a functional protein product[1][2][3][7]. In other mammals such as mice and rats, the orthologous gene (functional TAAR3) encodes a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) involved in olfactory chemosensation of certain trace amines[1][3]. Trace amine-associated receptors as a family play roles in olfaction and chemical sensing in vertebrates, but in primates—including humans—TAAR3 has degenerated into a pseudogene and is not believed to have functional protein expression or biological activity[6][3][1]. There are no known drugs, clinical biomarkers, or therapeutic roles associated with this locus in humans. The gene has been variously annotated as GPR57, TAAR3, or related GPCR/olfactory receptor aliases in databases, but is best described as a non-functional, evolutionary remnant of the functional TAAR3 in other mammals[1][2][3][6][7].
