TAAR7P, or trace amine-associated receptor 7, pseudogene, is a non-functional pseudogene in humans belonging to the trace amine-associated receptor family. While TAAR7 orthologs in rodents and other mammals function as G protein-coupled olfactory receptors that recognize volatile amine odorants (primarily involved in detecting social and predator cues[5]), the human TAAR7P does not encode a protein product[9]. Its gene sequence has accumulated disabling mutations, and it is one of several human TAAR pseudogenes, together with TAAR3P and TAAR4P. Consequently, it does not participate in neurotransmission, signal transduction, or olfactory recognition in humans. Functional TAAR7 receptors are present in other species and have been studied for evolutionary patterns, ligand selectivity, and olfactory function, but these findings do not apply to the human TAAR7P[2][5][9].
