Trans-2,3-dihydro-3-hydroxyanthranilate isomerase is a bacterial enzyme (EC 5.3.3.17), also known by the gene name PhzF, that catalyzes the isomerization of (5S,6S)-6-amino-5-hydroxycyclohexane-1,3-diene-1-carboxylate during the biosynthetic pathway that produces phenazine compounds. Phenazines, such as pyocyanin, play roles in microbial competition, virulence, and redox homeostasis in bacteria including Pseudomonas and Streptomyces species[3][4][5][6][9][10]. This enzyme is critical for bacteria to produce phenazine secondary metabolites, which can exhibit antibiotic, antitumor, and antiparasitic activity, and act as virulence factors in pathogenic bacteria. It is not a direct human receptor or therapeutic target but may be of interest in developing novel antibacterial strategies by inhibiting phenazine biosynthesis[9].
