Overview

Transmembrane protein 14D, pseudogene (TMEM14DP) is a pseudogene in the human genome[4][5]. It is a member of the transmembrane protein 14 family, which contains several functional membrane proteins, but TMEM14DP itself is classified as a pseudogene and does not encode a functional protein[3][5]. Bioinformatic predictions based on homology suggest it would be localized to membranes, possibly the mitochondrial inner membrane, and could be involved in mitochondrial transport or the regulation of heme biosynthesis, but there is no experimental evidence for any biological function, disease relevance, or druggability for TMEM14DP itself[4][5]. TMEM14DP is not regarded as a therapeutic target, drug receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biologically relevant molecule in the context of drug development, biomarker research, or human disease[4][5]. All available evidence points to TMEM14DP being a non-functional pseudogene rather than an active gene or protein product. There is a related functional gene, TMEM14D, but this is a distinct entry with possible biological roles; TMEM14DP does not share these features. No drugs are known or predicted to interact with TMEM14DP, and it has no recognized role as a biomarker or safety concern in clinical use or research. If TMEM14DP appears in a drug-target or protein database, it is almost certainly due to automatic annotation or database error. TMEM14DP is a pseudogene, does not encode a functional protein, and is not a legitimate therapeutic target or biologically active molecule[4][5]. Any attribution of biological function, disease involvement, or pharmacological interaction to TMEM14DP would be incorrect based on current knowledge.
