Troponin C (TnC) is a calcium-binding protein that forms part of the troponin complex, which regulates contraction in striated muscle. In skeletal muscle, TnC acts as the primary calcium sensor, triggering conformational changes that enable actin-myosin interaction and thus muscle contraction. There are two main isoforms: TNNC1 (cardiac and slow-twitch skeletal) and TNNC2 (fast-twitch skeletal). TNNC2 has a higher affinity for Ca2+.
