Tumor Antigen (Autologous)

Molecular classification
Protein, Glycoprotein, Lipid, Mutated gene product, Neoantigen
01

Overview

A tumor antigen (autologous) refers to an antigenic substance derived from a patient's own tumor cells. These antigens are unique or overexpressed proteins, glycoproteins, or other molecules produced by cancer cells that can trigger an immune response in the host. When used therapeutically, autologous tumor antigens are typically processed and presented back to the same patient—often as part of personalized immunotherapies such as vaccines or dendritic cell-based treatments. They aim to stimulate a specific immune response against the patient's unique cancer.

02

Mechanism of action

Stimulates the immune system by being recognized as "non-self," triggering a cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response. Autologous approaches use a patient’s own tumor material to ensure all relevant neoantigens are included, promoting personalized anti-cancer immunity.
