Overview

MUC1-TN refers to a tumor-associated glycoform of the mucin 1 (MUC1) protein, characterized by the presence of the Tn antigen—a truncated O-linked N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) sugar. This aberrant glycosylation is not found in healthy tissues but is commonly present on MUC1 expressed by various epithelial cancers, making it a highly specific marker and target for cancer immunotherapy. In tumors, it promotes cell proliferation, enhances survival signaling, facilitates invasion/metastasis, and contributes to immune evasion due to its altered surface presentation.
