Overview

Tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) are cellular proteins that are abnormally expressed, mutated, or otherwise altered in tumor cells compared to normal tissues. When these antigens originate from the patient's own tumor cells, they are referred to as *autologous* TAAs. These molecules can trigger an immune response because their abnormal presence or structure is recognized as non-self by the host's immune system. Autologous TAAs serve as both biomarkers for detection/monitoring and targets for personalized immunotherapy approaches in oncology.
