Overview

The **Tumor-associated Hanganutziu-Deicher antigen** is a class of **N-glycolylneuraminic acid (NeuGc)-containing gangliosides** that are enriched in human colon cancer tissues. These glycolipids, which are not typically found in normal human tissues, become incorporated into the membranes of tumor cells and can be detected using specific immunochemical methods. Several molecular species have been identified, including hematoside and its O-acyl esters, GM2 containing NeuGc, and sialylparagloboside derivatives. The presence of these antigens is highly variable among patients with colon cancer but absent from normal colorectal tissue[3]. Their expression on the tumor cell surface makes them potential targets for immunotherapy or diagnostic applications as they represent a form of "non-self" recognized by the immune system. These antigens do not fit traditional categories such as receptor or enzyme; rather, they are classified as **tumor-associated carbohydrate/lipid antigens**—specifically glycosphingolipids—implicated in immune evasion and possibly modulating interactions between tumor cells and their microenvironment[3]. Their role is primarily associated with **cancer**, especially colorectal carcinoma. No approved drugs directly target these lipid antigens at present; however, their unique expression profile suggests potential utility both as biomarkers for patient selection/monitoring and as future therapeutic targets.
