Tumor-associated neoantigens are novel protein fragments (peptides) that arise from somatic mutations in the DNA of tumor cells. These mutations result in altered amino acid sequences, producing proteins not found in normal, healthy tissues. Because these neoantigens are unique to each patient's tumor, they are considered patient-specific. They are recognized by the immune system and can trigger a targeted immune response against tumor cells. Neoantigens are prime targets for personalized cancer immunotherapies due to their specificity and immunogenicity.
