Overview

The tumor microvasculature in the liver refers to the abnormal network of small blood vessels that form within and around liver tumors, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This vasculature supports tumor growth, progression, invasion, and metastasis through enhanced angiogenesis. It is characterized by disorganized architecture, deficient pericyte coverage, and leaky endothelium. Targeting the aberrant microvasculature is a major therapeutic strategy in HCC, but resistance can develop. Markers such as MVD are used prognostically.
