The Type I interferon receptor is a heterodimeric membrane receptor complex composed of the IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 subunits, which specifically binds type I interferons (including IFNα, IFNβ, and related molecules). Upon ligand binding, the receptor activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, resulting in transcriptional changes that mediate antiviral, antiproliferative, and immune-modulating responses. This receptor is a central mediator of immune responses to viral infections and is targeted therapeutically in cancer, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases relating to immune dysfunction.
