Molecular classification

Overview

RNU2-43P is a processed pseudogene related to the U2 small nuclear RNA gene. U2 snRNA is a core component of the spliceosome machinery, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][2]. However, unlike the functional U2 snRNA genes (such as RNU2-1 and RNU2-2, which produce active RNA incorporated into the spliceosome and are essential for RNA splicing), RNU2-43P does not produce a functional RNA and does not participate in any known cellular function[4]. Pseudogenes like RNU2-43P arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition but accumulate mutations and lose their original functional capabilities. They are annotated in genomic databases for reference but are not considered molecular targets for therapeutics, nor do they have a direct role in disease, protein interaction, or as biomarkers.
