Overview

RNU4-5P is a pseudogene of the U4 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), a component of the major spliceosome that is required for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][2]. Pseudogenes are gene sequences that are similar to known genes but are generally considered nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. The human genome contains multiple copies of snRNA genes, including many pseudogenes such as RNU4-5P, which may have arisen through reverse transcription and chromosomal integration[2]. While functional U4 snRNA is essential in the spliceosome for excising introns from pre-mRNA, the RNU4-5P pseudogene is not transcribed into functional RNA and has no established biological or disease-related role[1][2]. Current data and literature do not report RNU4-5P to be a therapeutic target, disease gene, or biomarker, and there are no known interventions or safety issues specific to this molecule[1][2].
