U6 small nuclear RNA 1239, pseudogene (RNU6-1239P) is a processed pseudogene related to the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA gene, a core component of the spliceosome critical for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][2][5]. U6 snRNA pseudogenes, including RNU6-1239P, are non-coding genomic elements formed primarily through retrotransposition mechanisms such as LINE-1-mediated reverse transcription[2][5]. Unlike functional U6 snRNA genes, these pseudogenes typically do not encode active RNA products and do not contribute directly to canonical spliceosomal function[2]. However, transcripts from some pseudogenes (including snRNA pseudogenes in general) have been shown in other contexts to participate in gene regulation at the RNA level, for example as antisense RNAs, small interfering RNAs, or as competing endogenous RNAs, though most individual U6 pseudogenes have no well-defined biological role[4]. RNU6-1239P is not recognized as a therapeutic target or biomarker, has no known direct disease association, and no drugs are known to interact with it.
