Overview

RNU6-378P is a member of a large family of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogenes distributed throughout the human genome. U6 snRNA itself is an essential non-coding RNA involved in pre-mRNA splicing as a critical component of the spliceosome, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-378P lack promoter activity and do not produce functional transcripts. They are the result of genomic retrotransposition or duplication events, often characterized by absence of regulatory sequences required for transcription or by frameshift mutations, disrupting their original function. Pseudogenes of U6 snRNA are not considered drug targets, not known to be associated with disease mechanisms, and do not have known roles as biomarkers or safety-related features. RNU6-378P is not a protein, receptor, enzyme, or RNA with known functional or therapeutic relevance, but rather a non-functional, frequently transcriptionally inactive genomic copy—a pseudogene—derived from the U6 snRNA gene. Pseudogenes, especially of non-coding RNA genes like U6 snRNA, are extremely common in vertebrate genomes. While true U6 snRNA is essential for spliceosome function and mRNA processing, pseudogenes such as RNU6-378P play no established direct biological, pathogenic, or therapeutic role.
