Overview

U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) is an abundant and highly conserved non-coding RNA essential to the function of the spliceosome, the molecular machine that removes introns from pre-mRNA in all eukaryotes. The U6 snRNA forms the active catalytic site of the spliceosome and participates in several dynamic RNA-RNA interactions to facilitate splicing. However, "RNU6-507P" is a pseudogene copy of U6 snRNA. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically lack protein-coding or normal RNA function, and they are generally not transcribed to functionally relevant RNAs or proteins. While some pseudogenes in the human genome have been linked to regulatory roles or as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), this is not generally true for U6 snRNA pseudogenes. There is no published evidence supporting a biological function, disease link, or pharmaceutical relevance for RNU6-507P specifically. Pseudogenes like RNU6-507P are cataloged primarily for genomic annotation purposes and are not considered valid therapeutic targets or established molecular entities in biomedical research. If you require information regarding the functional U6 snRNA itself (and its role in splicing and disease), please clarify—this entry, RNU6-507P, refers only to a genomic pseudogene copy, not a functioning snRNA.
