Overview

RNU6-586P (U6 small nuclear RNA 586, pseudogene) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene corresponding to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. U6 snRNA is highly conserved and a key component of the major spliceosome, participating in the excision of introns from pre-mRNA—a central step in eukaryotic gene expression[1][3][4][5]. In contrast, RNU6-586P itself is classified as a pseudogene: it is a non-functional genomic locus related to the U6 snRNA gene, typically generated via duplication or retrotransposition events, and generally bearing disabling mutations or structural rearrangements that prevent the production of a functional RNA[4][7][2]. U6 snRNA pseudogenes such as RNU6-586P play no known direct biological or disease-related roles, do not encode functional products, and are not considered therapeutic targets, biomarkers, or drug interaction partners[2][4][7]. Their presence reflects genomic evolutionary processes rather than active cellular functions.
