Overview

U6 small nuclear RNA 589, pseudogene (RNU6-589P) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene derived from a member of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. U6 snRNA itself plays a critical role as an essential component of the spliceosome complex by participating in nuclear precursor mRNA splicing[3][5]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-589P, however, do not encode functional RNAs or proteins and traditionally have been regarded as non-functional genomic elements. Recent research shows that some pseudogenes can play regulatory roles (e.g., as sinks for microRNAs or sources of small interfering RNAs), but these functions are general for the class of pseudogenes and have not been specifically demonstrated for RNU6-589P[2][4]. Note: RNU6-589P is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar molecular entity used in pharmacology, and there is no evidence suggesting it is directly involved in disease processes or drug interactions. It is important not to confuse RNU6-589P with functional U6 snRNA, which is essential for splicing[3][5][1].
