RNU6-605P is a pseudogene representing a nonfunctional, duplicated copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene. U6 snRNA itself is an essential, highly conserved non-coding RNA that forms part of the core catalytic center of the spliceosome and is critical for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][2]. The presence of many U6 pseudogenes marks evolutionary history and retrotransposition but does not result in a functional gene product or molecular target[3]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-605P are considered "genomic fossils" and are typically not involved in active cellular processes.
