As a pseudogene, RNU6-618P is a genomic sequence resembling the functional U6 snRNA gene, but it has acquired disabling mutations or deletions that prevent it from producing a functional RNA product[2]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-618P are typically considered non-functional remnants of their parent genes, although some pseudogenes may exhibit low or tissue-specific transcriptional activity and could theoretically play regulatory roles, such as competing for regulatory factors, but there is no evidence for this specific pseudogene having such activity[2].
