UQCRFS1P3 shares sequence homology with the functional gene UQCRFS1, which encodes a component (the Rieske iron-sulfur protein) of mitochondrial complex III involved in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. However, as a pseudogene, UQCRFS1P3 is **not known to produce a protein product or have enzymatic, receptor, or transporter activity**. Most pseudogenes are not considered therapeutic targets, although ongoing research suggests some pseudogenes may regulate gene expression through mechanisms such as microRNA decoy activity, but no such function is currently described for UQCRFS1P3[5][2][6][3].
