Target intelligence / Profile preview

Ubiquitin specific peptidase 17 like family member 6, pseudogene (USP17L6P)

Target
USP17L6P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, related family: Enzyme—Deubiquitinating enzyme for the functional USP17 proteins
01

Overview

USP17L6P is a pseudogene belonging to the family of ubiquitin specific peptidases. Unlike its functional homologs (e.g., USP17), it does not encode a protein with enzymatic activity and is generally regarded as non-functional in protein deubiquitination or cellular regulation[5][9]. Pseudogenes can sometimes have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as decoys for microRNAs, but there is no clear evidence for such a role regarding USP17L6P specifically[9]. Functional members of the USP17 family are cysteine-type deubiquitinases involved in regulating cell cycle progression, cell migration, and cancer biology[2][4][8], but these functions are not attributed to the USP17L6P pseudogene.
