Overview

USP9YP3, also known as ubiquitin specific peptidase 9, Y-linked pseudogene 3, is a human pseudogene found on the Y chromosome. It shares sequence similarity with the functional ubiquitin-specific peptidase 9, Y-linked gene (USP9Y), but does not encode a functional protein. As a pseudogene, USP9YP3 is not involved in enzymatic activity or disease mechanisms and is not considered a therapeutic target[8][5]. USP9YP3 should not be confused with the functional USP9Y, which encodes a ubiquitin-specific protease important for male germ cell development and is involved in spermatogenesis, infertility, and the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway[4][6][9]. The designation as a pseudogene means USP9YP3 is a non-functional genomic element with no current evidence of protein coding or direct biological role[8][5].
