Overview

VAMP-associated protein A, 33kDa pseudogene (ENSG00000259948, also known as LOC124903574) is a non-functional locus in the human genome that is related to the gene encoding VAMP-associated protein A (VAPA)[3]. VAPA is a ubiquitously expressed, type II integral endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein involved in vesicle trafficking, lipid transport, and the unfolded protein response[2][1]. The pseudogene is incapable of producing a functional protein and does not participate in cellular processes, is not a therapeutic target, and has no associated biomarkers or known drug interactions[3]. The presence of pseudogenes like ENSG00000259948 is common in the genome, generally resulting from gene duplication or retrotransposition events, but they do not contribute to established physiological or pathological functions.
