Overview

Vanin 3, pseudogene (VNN3P) is a human genomic locus within the vanin gene cluster on chromosome 6q23-q24. Its open reading frame is disrupted by a frameshift mutation, so it does not encode a functional protein. Extensive alternative splicing exists, but none of the transcripts encode the predicted pantetheinase protein. It is thus classified as a pseudogene and does not exhibit enzymatic activity or serve as a direct target in drug development. It may have limited biological roles in gene regulation (ceRNA/miRNA competition is possible for some pseudogenes, but no evidence for VNN3P specifically). Its significance is in genomic mapping and may be relevant for evolutionary or locus studies, not as a functional protein-coding target.
