Target intelligence / Profile preview

Virus-infected cells presenting Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) antigens (EBV-infected cells)

Target
EBV-infected cells
Molecular classification
Cell, Virus-infected cell, Antigen-presenting cell
01

Overview

Virus-infected cells presenting Epstein–Barr virus antigens are primarily human B lymphocytes and, to a lesser extent, epithelial cells that have been infected by EBV. These infected cells display viral proteins (antigens) on their surface via major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules, making them recognizable to the immune system—particularly cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells.
