Target intelligence / Profile preview

VOPP family member 2, pseudogene (VOPP2P)

Target
VOPP2P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Noncoding RNA
01

Overview

VOPP family member 2, pseudogene (VOPP2P) is classified as a human processed pseudogene. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble protein-coding genes but contain disabling mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons, rendering them nonfunctional in terms of protein production. Most pseudogenes, including VOPP2P, do not encode active proteins or act as direct therapeutic targets. However, some pseudogenes can have regulatory effects—for example, they may exert influence through RNA-based mechanisms such as acting as microRNA decoys or generating small interfering RNAs, thereby indirectly affecting gene expression. There is, however, no published evidence of a specific biological function, disease role, or drug interaction for VOPP2P itself.

Mechanism of action

None as a protein or pharmacologic target

03

Biological functions

None inherent as a protein; pseudogenes can sometimes play regulatory roles in gene expression, often through noncoding RNA mechanisms, but no specific function is reported for VOPP2P
04

Disease associations

No direct disease association established for VOPP2P; in general, some pseudogenes can affect disease through regulatory mechanisms, but this is not specifically described for VOPP2P
