VPS13A antisense RNA 1 (VPS13A-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 9 (human reference genome GRCh38: chr9:77176594-77178201)[4]. "Antisense RNA" denotes a transcript that is complementary to another gene's coding RNA; in this case, VPS13A-AS1 is antisense to the gene VPS13A, which encodes the lipid transfer protein chorein. The endogenous function and biological role of VPS13A-AS1 remain unclear, and there is no published evidence that it is targeted by drugs or used as a disease biomarker. It is distinguished from the protein-coding and disease-relevant gene VPS13A but may regulate its expression through RNA-mediated mechanisms, typical for lncRNAs.
