Overview

Wall teichoic acids (WTAs) are major anionic glycopolymers found in Gram-positive bacteria. The β-N-acetylglucosamine (β-GlcNAc) modification of WTA, catalyzed by TarS, is crucial for cell wall integrity, antibiotic resistance (especially to β-lactams in MRSA), phage sensitivity, and immune recognition. Targeting TarS or the β-GlcNAc modification itself is a potential strategy for sensitizing resistant bacteria to antibiotics and enhancing immune clearance.
