Wilms' tumor gene 1 protein (WT1)

Target
WT1
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein
01

Overview

Wilms' tumor gene 1 protein (WT1) is a zinc finger transcription factor crucial for kidney and gonad development during embryogenesis. It regulates genes involved in cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. WT1 acts as both a tumor suppressor and an oncogene, depending on the cellular context, and is implicated in various diseases, including Wilms' tumor, Denys–Drash syndrome, WAGR syndrome, and leukemia. Its expression is used diagnostically, and it's a promising target for cancer immunotherapy.

02

Mechanism of action

Immunotherapies targeting WT1 epitopes induce cytotoxic T lymphocyte activity; Modulation of proliferation/differentiation/apoptosis via gene regulation; Activation of pro-growth pathways (e.g., PI3K/AKT)
