Overview

X antigen family, member 3 pseudogene (ENSG00000229885) is a non-coding pseudogene located in the human genome. Pseudogenes are gene copies that have accumulated mutations preventing them from expressing functional proteins. The parental family, XAGE, is related to cancer-testis antigens expressed in a variety of tumors and some fetal tissues, but this pseudogene (a mutated, nonfunctional copy) does not encode a protein and is not known to act as a therapeutic target, enzyme, receptor, or similar molecule. Pseudogenes may participate in gene regulation at the RNA level (for example, by affecting mRNA stability, acting as miRNA sponges, or contributing to epigenetic regulation) in some cases, but this has not been described specifically for ENSG00000229885. There are no approved drugs, direct disease associations, or biomarker uses for this pseudogene. As such, it is not a therapeutic target.
