XG Y-linked 2 (pseudogene) (XGY2)

Target
XGY2
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA, lncRNA
01

Overview

XG Y-linked 2 (XGY2) is a Y chromosome pseudogene homolog of the Xg blood group gene; it is transcribed as a non-coding RNA but does not produce a functional protein product. While the XG gene on the X chromosome encodes the Xg blood group glycoprotein—a cell surface antigen in humans—XGY2 on the Y chromosome is a truncated, inactive locus and does not have known biological or disease roles. Its main scientific relevance is to chromosome structure and evolution rather than functional genomics or pharmacology.

Biological functions

Other (no known encoded protein, not assigned to canonical functions such as signal transduction)
03

Disease associations

Other (no disease association; the active XG is linked to the blood group antigen and rare associations, but XGY2 has no known disease role)
